A well-designed drainage system is the core of the Luxo Double Solar Carport. The multi-stage water drainage prevents standing water on the PV roof surface and protects your photovoltaic modules and aluminium substructure from long-term moisture damage.

A sophisticated drainage system is one of the key technical features of any solar carport, as it enables controlled rainwater runoff and guarantees the long service life of the entire structure. The Luxo Double Solar Carport is engineered with a 6° roof pitch. This incline ensures rainwater does not pool on the roof surface and reliably flows towards the drainage outlets. For large roof areas such as this double carport, measuring 5848 mm in length and 5430 mm in width, consistent slope is critical to avoid puddling and associated stress on photovoltaic modules and the supporting substructure.

The 5 Stages of Water Drainage
Water reliably flows toward gutters via the fixed slope; no standing water accumulates on PV modules.
First collection stage: catches water running off the roof edge and channels it onward.
Collects water from vertical gutters and consolidates the water flow.
Central collection gutter for the bundled rainwater flow of the whole system.
Downspout guides collected water in a controlled path from the roof all the way to ground level.
Stage 1: Roof Surface & 6° Roof Pitch
The drainage process starts on the roof surface of the solar carport. The 6° pitch directs rainwater toward the Vertical Gutter. The Vertical Gutter handles the first stage of drainage: it captures water flowing off the roof surface and routes it in a controlled manner, preventing uncontrolled water spillage along roof edges.
Stages 2 & 3: Vertical Gutter and Horizontal Gutter
In the next step, water transfers from the Vertical Gutter into the Horizontal Gutter. The Horizontal Gutter acts as a collector, receiving and combining water flow from the Vertical Gutter. This horizontal routing merges water in an organised way before it reaches the next stage of the system.
Stage 4: Rain Gutter – Central Collection Gutter
The collected water then flows into the Rain Gutter. This rain gutter forms the central collection point of the full drainage system and fully captures incoming water from the Horizontal Gutter. From here, the water flow is guided downwards toward the discharge point.
Stage 5: Downpipe – Controlled Drainage to Ground Level
The system is completed by the Downpipe. The Downpipe carries rainwater gathered in the Rain Gutter safely from the roof area down to the ground. This method safely diverts water away from the solar carport structure without detours.
Benefits of the Multi-Stage Drainage System
The interaction of roof pitch, Vertical Gutter, Horizontal Gutter, Rain Gutter and Downpipe creates a continuous drainage path from roof surface to ground on the Luxo Double Solar Carport. This multi-stage design delivers structured, traceable water management, offering a practical solution for rainwater handling of carport-integrated PV systems for both private homeowners and PV installers.
